A beautiful place by the sea called Lilliput is where five mums from very different backgrounds, running their own individual businesses grouped together through similar interests and similar despair!
Despair at the lack of social scene available to us 30-something ex-pats relocated from various cities. We quit the hustle and bustle but we didn’t quit the vibe, the energy and good fun too.
However, when the sun did go down we felt that the magic went down too. We are all in at the stage of doing it all – a mad juggle of motherhood, self-employment, and everything life involves! That we desperately needed that place to let go, enjoy tear streaming hilarity, amazing music, atmospheric feeling, incredible music that takes you over the edge into complete state of euphoria with like-minded friends old and new. To feel like you escaped just for a time and can be you – or anyone! If we felt like this, then we knew others in the community did too.
Why are we doing this?
In our frantic planning and having never put on a festival before, we often thought this too! Though each of us on the team brought a unique set of skills to the table that worked and became obvious we had to do this because together we could.
There was a gap in Dorset for a music festival that wasn’t mainstream, family friendly and teamed with a decent music line up. This is how our conversations began and ideas plotting.
We also go it as parents ourselves that children shouldn’t be overlooked we want adults and children equally to have the best day out EVER, shared. We’ve literally compiled a music and entertainment line up designed to lift you to the pure feeling of being really alive. Our festival aims for all whether you wish for escapism try something new or belly laughing hysteria, you can come and have it all, make memories with a sprinkle of magic they’ll cherish forever.
We also recognised another huge plus point on putting on a day festival, we get to sleep! A day festival is where it’s at folks. Party and sleep = Winning and alive the next day!!
Why a festival
Another reason is when we learnt the sad news from a friend of ours Debbie Smith locally and fondly known by many in our community was sadly diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Suddenly the clogs started turning, about how WE could make a difference to help in more ways than one. We had our strong WHY to begin the adventure of Southern Salt.
Background in music
Being a makeup artist who has worked with many music artists including Paloma Faith, Robbie Williams, James Bay, George Ezra, Alison Moyet, Tom O’Dell, Florence and the Machine, Timbland, Prof Green, Ellie Goulding. Also many more working behind the scenes at MTV awards, music show like The Crush, and clients like Burberry acoustic and Apple Music. I headed up the team and got Sothern Salt on the road to becoming real for everyone to enjoy.
